Yongnuo 50mm f/1.4N: a pratical view on it
In my head
A = 1.4, 1/640, D750
1. Introduction
I asked myself when I heard first time about this lens: who would buy this lens? Might be only who do not own a 50mm prime and want something cheap to play with. I am owning the AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1.8. This lens has a nice bokeh. But always I am looking for special bokeh feelings. Each lens has it’s own soul. Because it is a fast lens (f/1.4 maximum aperture) also working in difficult lighting conditions: why not to play with? I bought it!

Ok, after some playing around with this lens I can conclude:
- The AF motor is noisy, but fast enough for most standard situations.
- The autofocus performance (accuracy and speed) is acceptable.
- I love the AF/MF switch which allows me fast to operate with the nice MF ring.
- Sharpness discussion? I am not a pixel-peeper, because it is hard to get with the same lens the smoothest bokeh and the sharpest shot in parallel.
- The bokeh is in tendency better (more creamy, smoother) than that of the AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1.8 at the same aperture … but the 1.4 is a plus.
- It is a large and heavy lens, but good to handle in MF mode.
- Great lens for bokeh and portrait.
